What Drives Us

Every publication has a point of view, whether it admits it or not. Ours comes from the workshop rather than the showroom. Before a new material reaches a production line it is pulled, heated, flexed and aged until its weaknesses are known. We think new technology and new business ideas deserve the same treatment before anyone recommends them.

Curiosity first, verdict second

A fresh idea is interesting long before it is proven. We enjoy writing about emerging tools, from streaming platforms to automated research assistants, but we try to separate what a product does today from what its makers hope it will do later. When the honest answer is "it depends", we say so and explain what it depends on.

Trade-offs are the story

Engineers rarely get something for nothing. A stiffer polymer may be more brittle; a lighter part may cost more to make. The same logic applies to a faster web page, a cheaper loan or a cleverer gadget. We think readers are better served by a clear account of what they gain and what they give up than by a list of benefits alone.

Plain language, precise meaning

Jargon can hide a weak argument. We aim to use technical terms only when they carry real meaning, and to explain them when we do. If a sentence would confuse a reasonably interested reader, it gets rewritten.

Small decisions matter

Much of what we cover is not headline material. Choosing a bin size for a renovation, maintaining brakes, picking an image format or tidying a cash-flow problem are ordinary decisions, yet they add up. We think practical, everyday choices deserve careful writing as much as grand predictions do.

What we try to avoid

  • Breathless predictions with no reasoning behind them.
  • Numbers we cannot trace to a source a reader could check.
  • Advice that only works for one reader's circumstances, presented as universal.
  • Comparisons that quietly favour whoever happens to be mentioned in the article.

Staying in touch with tomorrow

Our tagline is a reminder rather than a promise. Technology keeps moving, and an article that was accurate when written can age. We revisit older pieces, correct them when needed and say so openly; the details are on Keeping Things Accurate. To see how the topics fit together, start with What We Cover, or read more about the publication on About AB PlasTech.

What guides us

The ideas behind every article

Our subjects range widely, but the same few commitments shape how each one is written.

  • Evidence over enthusiasm

We favour what can be checked and say plainly when something is still uncertain.

  • Orientation, not instruction

Articles help you understand your options so you can choose, rather than telling you what to buy.

  • How it works inside

We open up the mechanism behind a technology so its strengths and limits make sense.

  • Independent judgement

Coverage is never sold, and companies mentioned have no say over our conclusions.
